This Sunday, I set sail out of Galveston on my first cruise of the new year. I also made a big mistake. I knew I made a big mistake, but it was somewhat unavoidable. I won’t ever do it again, however, lol! And that is….flying in on the same day of my cruise. Here is why I don’t advise this to clients:
Between all the things you have to do pre-cruise now, and compounding them with a double whammy of a travel day, you’ll end up needing a nap at best. There is stress to make sure your flight arrives on time to make it to the port. (And funny enough, I made it out of Orlando immediately just before a very bad storm [caused tornadoes] hit.) There is stress that your baggage arrives with you and ready to board the ship. There is stress from making sure your transfer arrives to the port on time. It’s not worth it, really.
I went back to my cabin after dinner around 8/8:30pm. I NEVER do that. I’m usually out and about exploring the shops or the shows and I just couldn’t. Mind you, I hadn’t been able to unpack either as it had truly been a whirlwind of a day. I just couldn’t fully enjoy the first day being on the ship because there was too much packed in for the day. And for an investment like vacation, that is certainly how I don’t want my clients to feel.
If you find, like me, that it is truly unavoidable to fly in a day prior to your cruise, make sure at least to get the first flight out to your embarkation port. I seriously believe that had I not caught the 6:35am flight out, I would not have made it to board my cruise on Sunday due to all the bad weather in the area. I did wait about 90 minutes at the airport for the transfer bus to finally leave for the port, but the peace of mind was wayyyy worth that 90 minutes.
Also, living in Florida and having access to many major cruise ports, I do have to say, I’m pretty spoiled. I know not everyone has the luxury to drive to the closest cruise port and I don’t take that lightly.

Have a great week,
Rita
